Writing my own Eulogy

In class yesterday, we were given an assignment to write our own Eulogy which really caught me off guard, but at the same time got me thinking. As I was brainstorming I started to come up with  a number of things that I would like people to say at my funeral, but the problem was I wasn't sure that they would be said if my time was to come sooner rather than later. After looking over what I read, I realized writing my own Eulogy gave me insight to what needed to change in my life right now.

For example, I wrote that I would want to have a career that my loved ones could be proud to speak of. The truth is, I don't have that at this point in time which inspired me to continue to be  completely devoted to school and make sure that I become someone who will, without a doubt, serve as a role model for all of those around me (Jayden included).

What seemed to be just an assignment turned into one of the most inspirational things I have ever done. It lead me to set goals for myself that I wouldn't have originally thought of and it drove me to make more of my life now because truth be told, we never know when our time will be up, and I don't want to leave this world with regrets or doubts. I want to be entirely confident in knowing my family will have nothing but good things to say about me along with knowing I have left my mark; whether it changes only my family or the entire world, I don't want to miss out on making a difference.

To anyone who reads this, I really encourage you to write your Eulogy and see what you get out of it. It would be interesting for me to hear your thoughts/feelings as well!

Lots of Love,
Desirae <3

  1. I love your blog honey! It's a little off-putting to think of writing my own eulogy, or, worse yet, how someone else will write my eulogy when I'm gone, but an eye-opening exercise nevertheless. I'm currently reading a book called A Million Miles in A Thousand Years by Donald Miller and it's about how these filmmakers approach him on making a movie about his life, at which point Donald realizes he doesn't like the life he's lived and he wants to change his story, and he shares how you can change your story, too. It's really good so far, and I'd highly recommend it. Love you!
